Cuphead swept the world by storm in 2017 as one of the most aesthetically stunning and challenging games of the year. After five years, the game is finally receiving an animated television version on Netflix. Here’s an updated look at everything we know about The Cuphead Show on Netflix, which is set to premiere in February 2022. Let us explain Cuphead to you if you don’t know what it is. Cuphead, a side-scrolling platformer, debuted exclusively on Microsoft’s Xbox platform in September 2017. Five years later, players are still playing the beloved game, which has captivated them with its traditional cartoon aesthetic and difficulties. The game has sold over 4 million copies and is now available for download on Nintendo Switch and Mac computers. Cuphead has earned nearly 20 major video game accolades, including Game of the Year on Xbox One and Best Independent Game at the Game Awards.
Release date
On February 18, 2022, Netflix will release Cuphead. This was revealed in the show’s debut teaser, which you can see here. Netflix has been teasing the show’s arrival for years, and we’re hopeful that all this time in the oven has helped ensure that it will be a success.
Cast members
Wayne Brady, who will voice the wicked King Dice in The Cuphead Show, is the show’s biggest name.
Cuphead, an ambitious and rather foolish cup-person, is voiced by veteran voice actor Tru Valentino (who can be heard in everything from Psychonauts 2 to Fast & Furious Spy Racers). Frank Todaro (Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, and Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy) voices Cuphead’s brother Mugman
The remaining cast members of The Cuphead Show are as follows:
- Ms. Chalice’s voice is provided by Grey Griffin.
- The Devil’s voice is played by Luke Millington-Drake (another villain)
- Elder Kettle’s voice is provided by Joe Hanna (last seen yelling at Cuphead and Mugman)
- Ollie Bulb’s voice is provided by Jim Conroy.
Trailer for the Cuphead Show
The Cuphead Show’s initial teaser (which debuted on Jan. 18, 2022) begins with a globe map, emphasizing the idea that this is a video game adaptation. You would imagine the series will feature pirates, dragons, and mer-people based on the map at the beginning of the film, and the dragon does appear in the trailer.
Cuphead and Mugman then paint a white picket fence, an obvious homage to The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer, as Cuphead states they seek fun and adventure. Ms. Chalice, who will appear in the 2022 DLC Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, is also shown in the video.
Regrettably, this looks to imply a trip to the local Carnevil (yep, that’s how it’s spelled)/ The meta-yuks keep on coming, as Cuphead’s spirit (seen when the player dies) even flies out of his body at one point.
