Ever since season 4 of The Last Kingdom has ended, it has left the audience with some unanswered questions about Uhtred’s journey. The audience is really keen to watch the last 10 episodes of the final season.
Lately, there were updates about the season being released next month but, in the list of releases on Netflix for July 2021, One of the shows that were missing from the list is The Last Kingdom.
However, Netflix has freshly confirmed that season 5 of Last Kingdom will be the last season. The fans are not at all happy about the decision, but that’s the way it is. The season will be based on the ninth and 10th books in the series by Bernard Cornwell, not covering the rest as there are 13 books in total in the series.
The Last Kingdom Release Date
The showrunners have given updates on the completion of the filming of Season 5. The director also shared on social media a glimpse of the last episodes stating that the final episodes are epic. The excitement for the final season is at cloud nine, but unfortunately, we apparently won’t see the finale season in 2021. The release date has not been finalized yet as there will be a lot of post-production work to get through including recording, editing, and more, which will take time.
With the work needed to be done, the expected range for the release is probably around early 2022, potentially April 2022.
The Last Kingdom Season 5 Expectations
In the last season( season 4), Uhtred was seen mixing with his children for the first time. Both his children were stubborn and were ready to follow their path and not their father.
Stiorra was happy to go to Eoferwic. Meanwhile, Uhtred (the young) has decided to proceed with his path with the church and his studies.
It ended with an abrupt ending, however, it was anticipated that if Mercia and Wessex were to go into conflict, Stiorra would be the one in danger.
So what will Uhtred choose? The woman he loves, Aetheflaed, or will daughter Stiorra and the Danes?
In addition, we can expect the following plot twists in the finale season:-
- Uhtred’s revenge for the death of Father Beocca.
- Season 5 might also see a time skip.
- more further Danes might arrive to try and rehabilitate lost land from abroad.
- Bride’s revenge.
