Director Rumy Jafry was one of the few in Bollywood who believed Rhea Chakraborty would recover and had hoped for a good trial for her when she was caught within the eye of the storm after her actor-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death on Flag Day last year. Now, a year later, the filmmaker and therefore the actress are gearing for the theatrical release of their film ‘Chehre’. ETimes trapped with Rumy for an exclusive chat and here’s what he had to mention …
When asked if he was, at any point, concerned that Rhea’s personal life controversy will affect the film in any manner, he said, “I don’t think the film will suffer due to Rhea’s personal life controversy. i will be able to admit that I felt it might have affected the film, had it released last year. Everyone knows what a furore the media caused with the entire Sushant Singh Rajput case and Rhea’s arrest. Last year, she was a ‘witch’, a ‘golddigger’ and whatnot; this year she was declared because the ‘most desirable woman’. This shows there has been a change within the perception of individuals . So, i actually don’t feel the film will have an adverse effect due to what happened with Rhea last year”.
Rumy had earlier said that he has high regard for people that supported Rhea during the time of her trial. “Rhea may be a great person . She comes from an honest family. once you will see her in ‘Chehre’, you’ll see how good an actor she is. She features a very different role within the movie. She has done complete justice to the role,” he concluded.
In a recent interview with a news portal, the filmmaker had stated that folks who watch the film for Rhea Chakraborty are going to be certain a disappointment because the main focus of interest is Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi’s jugalbandi. Their interaction is what gives the film its tense appeal.
‘Chehre’ brings together Amitabh and Emraan for the primary time. It also features Rhea, Annu Kapoor, and Krystle D’Souza in key roles.
