Netflix has unveiled the primary cast for the live-action version of One Piece through Twitter (and immediately erased it), with Iaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar leading the group.
It’s been about two years since Netflix initially announced that they were working on a live-action series with Tomorrow Studios, and while there have been a few updates along the way, we’ve never known who will be in the cast. Until now, that is.
The series is presently in South Africa for an early 2022 release, but we now know who the core actors for the live-action series will be.
So, let’s take a look at the latest cast members for Netflix’s One Piece live-action series.
Monkey D. Luffy will be playing Inaki Godoy:
The protagonist of the narrative. Godoy has already been in a huge Netflix Original, Who Killed Sara? in which he played Bruno. Monkey D. Luffy appears in the anime’s opening chapter and the episode as the founder and commander of the fearsome and powerful Straw Hat Pirates.
Mackenyu will play Roronoa Zoro:
Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro Mackenyu is most recognized for his role as Cadet Ryoichi in Pacific Rim: Uprising, although he has also starred in games like Rurouni Kenshin, Brave: Gunjyo Senki, and OverDrive.
Roronoa, also known as Pirate Hunter Zoro, is one of the two swordsmen of the Straw Hat Pirates. He made his first appearance in the anime’s third chapter.
Jacob Gibson will play Usopp:
In recent years, Jacob Gibson, who played Usopp Gibson on Grey’s Anatomy, The Resident, and Greenleaf, has been in several TV shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, The Resident, and Greenleaf.
He’ll be portraying “God” Usopp, who initially appeared in chapter 23 and episode 8 of the original anime. Usopp is the sharpshooter for the Straw Hat Pirates and the crew’s fourth member.
Emily Rudd will play nami:
Rudd was most recently featured in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy as Cindy Berman during the summer, but she has also been in Dynasty as Heidi and will shortly appear in Hunters.
Nami is the Straw Hat Pirates’ navigator and the third member of the crew. She makes her first appearance in Chapter 8 of the manga and has orange hair.
Taz Skylar would play Sanji:
Skylar, who has been in films such as Agatha Raisin and Villain, will play Sanji in the forthcoming One Piece season. The character, also known as “Black Leg” Sanji, is the Straw Hat Pirates’ chef and the fifth member of the crew. The character initially appeared in the manga in chapter 43 and did not appear until episode 20.
