Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 Fits More OLED Into A Sleeker Foldable

At the height of the foldable smartphone boom in late 2020, Lenovo surprised everyone by launching a new laptop called the ThinkPad X1 Fold. Touted as the world’s first foldable PC, the ThinkPad X1’s claim to fame was its 13.3-inch foldable OLED panel that offered users multiple modes to use the notebook. In addition, the ThinkPad X1 also came with the Bluetooth Mini Fold Keyboard that attached itself to the bottom half of the display, transforming it into a normal-looking laptop complete with a keyboard and a trackpad.

While receiving broad praise for being a product that is engineered well and durable, ThinkPad X1 Fold does come with the problem part. People find software experiences on clumsy devices and full of bugs. This product is also famous for typing mistakes when using the Bluetooth keyboard provided, as highlighted in the video by Mrmobile. Then there are problems such as the problem of appearance orientation and general delay in waking up from sleep.

Most of these problems are rooted in the fact that the X1 fold runs Windows 10 instead of Windows 10x which was originally designed by the device. Apart from this problem, Lenovo’s first effort to make a folded PC is generally seen as a step towards the right direction, with people expecting the company to come with the successor in the near future. That’s precisely what happened today, September 1, 2022, when Lenovo announced the launch of ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 only a few months after first teasing the product in July.

Larger display, improved keyboard

The combination of user feedback and user insight has allowed Lenovo to make some changes to ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022, according to the company. The most significant change in the product is an increase in size. Instead of 13.3-inch panels found in the previous generation, Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold 2022 received a 16.3-inch folding panel that offers a max resolution of 2024×2560 pixels. The panel is placed in a 25% thinner chassis with a much thinner bezel. At 600 nits, this new screen is also much brighter than the 300-nit display on a longer model.

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold 2022 can be configured with Intel Gen Core i9, i7 and I5 chips – all with Intel Vpro features. In addition, the engine supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. Along with the 5MP camera facing forward, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 has a 48WHR battery that supports 65W fast charging. The connectivity option includes support for the Twin Thunderbolt 4 port, a single USB-C port, and the Nano SIM card tray. Lenovo has also thrown 5G and Bluetooth 5.2 sub-6 support.

In addition to improving the hardware and software aspects of the device, ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 also gets a better Bluetooth keyboard that is now trained and (easy) free from bugs. Lenovo said they intended to make ThinkPad X1 Fold 2022 available to be purchased in November 2022 with prices starting at $ 2,499.
