The government reportedly held a discussion about providing assistance to Pakistan, where the destroying flood had killed more than 1,000 people and affected the population of almost 3 crores.
According to a report by Indian Express, talks were held at the highest level of the government, but no decision was taken.

NDTV has known that Pakistan has not officially reached India to ask for help, although one of the ministers reportedly said that Islamabad could consider importing food from India.

The discussion about providing assistance to Pakistan came against the background of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed his condolences to their families who were killed in the disaster.

“Sad to see the destruction caused by floods in Pakistan. We expressed our sincere condolences to the families of the victims, who were injured and all that were affected by this natural disaster and hoped for the normal initial recovery,” Prime Minister Tweeted last night.

Floods have worsened inflation in Pakistan, and the prices of important goods such as vegetables have jumped exponentially.

According to Pakistan’s media report, Minister of Finance Miftah Ismail said that the government could “consider importing vegetables and other entitled goods from India” because floods have damaged plants throughout the country.

“We need to consider getting some vegetables on the land border,” he told the Geo News announcer, according to the AFP report. “We have to do it because of the type of price and deficiencies we experience … Inflation has broken people’s back.”

Previously, India had provided assistance to Pakistan during the 2010 flood and the 2005 earthquake.
