WASHINGTON, United States: Three people were killed and 11 others injured on Saturday after several shooters fired into the crowd in the city of Philadelphia, according to the police.
The shooting took place on a busy street known for his nightlife.Police Inspector D. F. Pace told reporters that two men and a woman had been killed, added that officers responded to the incident “observing some active shooters who shot into the crowd.”
“You can imagine that there are hundreds of people who enjoy South Street, as they do every weekend, when this shooting breaks,” Pace said.
He said that “many” officers were at the scene when the first shot was heard, describing it as “standard placement” for the region on the eve of the summer weekend.An officer who responded to firing on one of the shooters, who dropped his weapon and escaped, although it was not clear whether the man was beaten, Pace said.
Local media reported that no arrest was made.Pace said two semi-automatic pistols, one with expanded magazines, were found at the scene.He added that the police had to wait until morning to review the recording of supervision from the nearest business which was closed on Saturday night.
Pace describes the investigation as “liquid,” said there are still “many questions that have not been answered.”The US has been shaken by a series of high profile shootings in recent weeks, including in a school in Texas, a church in California, a grocery shop in New York and a hospital in Oklahoma. The incident has collectively killed dozens.
Observer Joe Smith, 23, told Philadelphia Inquirer that his mind had crossed the new incident when he heard the first shot ringing on Saturday.Once it starts, I don’t think it will stop,” he told the outlet.”There is a screaming guttur,” he added. “I just heard a scream.”Another witness, Eric Walsh, who was explained to the view of people who escaped from the shooting “came from the road with a splash of blood on white shoes and skinned knees and skinned elbows.”
Investigators reported that other people were shot fatal only blocks from the scene about two hours later, but the police said that the two incidents were not believed to be related.During warmer months, weapons violence tends to surge in the United States, where there are around 393 million weapons circulating in 2020, more than the number of people.
US President Joe Biden last week forcibly calling for new weapons control laws in response to new violence, mourning “a daily place that has become a murder field, the battlefield here in America.”A group of Bipartisan senators met on Thursday to discuss the firearm control package, but the Republican party historically rejected the louder weapons law.
